The UK plays host to a few Japanese themed gardens. My post today is based on a garden that I have visited recently on holiday to Whitby.
Paesholm Park – Scarborough
This municipal garden opened in 1912, and became a favourite venue for displays and exhibitions. It was also then extended to include a boating lake which is still frequented even today.
The gardens around the park are extensive and host many Japanese themed plantings, including rare and unusual trees.
A Japanese design bridge takes you across the lake to the central island which has a large waterfall. Pathways take you up to the Pagoda, which was designed originally on the Willow patterned plates, and sheltered gardens.
